Parish Life
Agape consists of teams of laypersons who minister to fellow Parishioners during times of illness of crisis by delivering food, visiting, sending cards or flowers, or providing other services that may be needed.
Boomers Plus: For the "over 50" crowd, Boomers Plus offers informal social gatherings for fun and fellowship. This active group meets every month or two and is open to all those in this age group.
Coffee Hour: A group of volunteers, usually a family or couple, provides an array of snack foods, coffee and juices at the conclusion of every 10:30 service. This weekly event enables parishioners to meet any guests or new members as well as a chance for visiting and fellowship among friends.
The Order of the Daughters of the King: An organization of Episcopal women who pledge themselves to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism. Members of the Order are dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of their parishes.
EYC: A ministry of fellowship and service for young people grades 7 - 12. EYC meetings and activities are rooted in Christian teaching and offer a variety of safe, fun and enriching experiences in and outside church that encourage spiritual and emotional growth. EYC meets year round and is under the direct supervision and guidance of our trained Youth Minister.
Hospitality: A group of volunteers who bring food for receptions and other special events, as requested.
Men's Club: The Men's Club meets quarterly for food and fellowship. The purpose of the Men's club is prayer, social time, and fundraising to meet the needs of Resurrection. The primary fund raising activity is the 4th of July BBQ which has become an annual tradition in Franklin. In December of each year the Men go to the "Mountain" (at Monteagle, TN) for a retreat. On Shrove Tuesday, the Men's Club sponsors a Pancake Supper to benefit the youth ministry. All men of the parish are automatically members of the Men's Club with no dues or fees.
The Order of St. Luke: A ministry team part of a body of Christians who believe that the healing of the body, mind and spirit is a vital part of the total ministry of Jesus Christ who heals today as he did when he walked on earth. The Order is committed to the belief that God's healing power operates within the church, which is the body of Christ on earth, through its membership and that the healing of the body, mind and spirit is a vital part of the total ministry of Jesus Christ. Resurrection's chapter members feel called to make Jesus' Ministry of Healing a regular part of their vocation and work with the understanding that Christian Healing and competent medical practice are not averse, but complimentary to each other and meet each Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
Prayer Chain: A group of parishioners committed to praying for the needs of our parish family. Prayer needs are communicated to the rector or office, and a request for prayer is sent by email to all persons on the church's broadcast email distribution list. Certain persons on the email distribution list then make phone contact with those prayer chain members who do not use email.Resurrection Herald: An informative monthly parish newsletter that consists of thought provoking articles and information on upcoming parish activities.
Special Events: This energetic group undertakes a variety of entertainments that give us a chance to include friends and neighbors in our fellowship. Among these have been a bowling tournament, a Valentine's Dance (reminiscent of your senior prom), a boisterous Cinco de Mayo festival, a Mothers Day Tea (hats and pearls), a night of board and card games, the annual Thanksgiving Day Feast, a Spaghetti Western night (spaghetti by the Men's Club, western by Clint Eastwood) and giant screen films featuring pizza, popcorn and brief discussions.
Sunday Breakfast: A weekly event that has become a Resurrection staple. Every week a team of six to eight people cook and serve breakfast to Sunday worshipers between the early service and Church School. Each team has a different menu in order to offer a variety on a week-to-week basis. In addition to a good meal, this event serves as a regular occasion to grow closer to each other in the fellowship of Christ.
Supper Groups: Open to all adults, supper groups are social, informal gatherings of approximately eight persons. A popular way to get to know each other and newcomers, supper groups meet once a mouth for four months after which new groups are formed. The group takes turns meeting in each of the member's homes serving a potluck meal or going out to eat as a group.
Wednesday Supper: Anytime we get together, food is usually involved. That's certainly the case on Wednesday evenings during the periods the rector's Bible study is in session. We gather at 5:30 for fellowship and supper provided by the week's designated volunteer chefs followed by Holy Eucharist with Healing at 6:15 and Bible study from 7 to 8. To eat on Wednesdays, all you need to do is sign up on Sunday on the sheet in the kitchen or contact the office by phone (377-9144) or email (resmail1@comcast.net) by noon on Tuesday, and show up on Wednesday with an appetite and $5. We'd love to have you anytime!
